Research & Development
HYBRIT aims to replace the conventional coal- based blast furnace technology with a direct reduction technology, based on fossil-free hydrogen. Development of the process technology in specific areas is critical for a first-of-kind implementation in an industrial scale production plant. Hybrit's technologies have already reached a significant maturity as several R&D and process development activities have been deployed since 2017. This includes a unique pilot plant for hydrogen based direct reduction, commissioned in 2020.
Within R&D we gather Hybrit's team of process specialists for the development and the design of new fossil-free production processes. Our technical focus is hydrogen based direct reduction of iron ore pellets, computational modelling and analysis of production processes and fossil-free production and storage of hydrogen gas.
Key activities in the process team are
- Creating competitive technical solutions for a fossil free process.
- Conducting experimental tests in laboratory and pilot scale, theoretical analysis, and modelling.
- Assessing technical feasibility of process concepts for implementation in full-scale
- Developing conceptual process design for industrialisation
- Leading and participating in technical process work within Hybrit EPC projects
- Managing process development and design projects
