Experimental Plant Operations
Within Experimental Plant Operations, Hybrit works to maintain and develop HYBRIT's pilot plants. By keeping the facilities well maintained, the foundation is laid for high quality research to be carried out and at the same time make safety and a good working environment a top priority.
HYBRIT's pilot plants include the pilot plant for direct reduction, hydrogen production and the pilot plant for hydrogen storage.
Main focus areas:
- Maintain and manage the pilot facilities. This includes all the various plant parts, but also maintaining property, land and offices that are directly connected to the plant.
- Ensure that pilot facilities are in good condition so that planned trial campaigns can be carried out according to the decided trial plan.
- Contribute to the building of knowledge and developing competence to support Hybrit's owner companies in their transformation.
Experimental Plant Operation consists of Process Engineers and Process Technicians who form the basis for ensuring the continuity of the management of the pilot plants. In pilot campaigns resources from the owner companies and hired personnel are used to man the shift team. Normally, there are a total of 40 – 50 people involved during the operation of the pilot plant.
About Hybrit Development AB
In 2016, SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall started the HYBRIT® initiative (Hydrogen Breakthrough Ironmaking Technology) with the aim of creating a completely fossil-free value chain from mine to fossil-free steel, with fossil-free pellets, fossil-free electricity and hydrogen.
The HYBRIT® technology, validated and optimized over several years of development with very promising results, will now be used and further developed in industrial applications on a larger scale.
